To set my shih tzu free from deadly mange was a challenge to me big time. In my whole life through, I never thought of getting a shih tzu. Until in one rainy day of August, 2017, my youngest daughter came home holding a tiny fragile golden brown baby shih tzu. She told me that the puppy she just got is apparently sick. I was so hesitant to accept her pet because if I would invest to her puppy,by then, in a drop of a hat, we would lose her, of course I disagreed to have Waffle. But this puppy sat her eyes on me as if she got what I mean. And who could never be touched by her poor, sad but pretty eyes that looks kinda something is there to wait upon ?
And then, our jouney began......
Sam and Chris, (trimmed Waffle's hair, in her despair ! ) It was her first time to get trimmed , so much so she felt sad, while my two daughters felt sorry and fell inlove with this puppy. After a bit trimming, they applied some betadine and cleaned her .
Waffle knows she looked bad and (to our dismay,) smells bad likewise.
She hides and keeps herself in the dark day and night. Even if we call her to have some hug or play, she ignores us out of her lost confidence. The veterinary told us that she would eat, but her immune system was losing a fight with the infection from the internal consumption of the bacteria that was on her blood, causing her platelets to drop down. External damage of mange causes her multiple skin inflammations with contineous bleeding.
It was just given that everyday I needed to clean up her corner, mopping the floors with bleach, spraying home fragrance, and look at her, while she obviously shows she is so ashamed of herself and as if asking for forgiveness on how she did mess around.
Our trip to the teaching hospital in UP has been our route every now and then.
She was given antibiotic injections after several blood and skin tests.
Anemia in dogs was prevented to Waffle, but skin problems continued, after several months of check up and medications.
I happened to almost gave up !!!
I once cried and shout out while giving her a bath asking God a favor to heal this resilient pup! Imagine this pup wet with mycocide holding her hands together, also praying with me !!!
